The Board of Supervisors has approved a $262,000 contract between San Bernardino County Public Health and the Center for Oral Health to expand access to preventative dental care in underserved communities — including right here in Apple Valley.
Through this program, a registered dental hygienist in alternative practice will provide dental screenings, cleanings, fluoride treatments, and sealants at Apple Valley Head Start, Ontario Maple Head Start, and through a mobile dental unit that will visit remote areas and local events throughout the county.
Additonally, San Bernardino County Department of Public Health is partnering with several rural school districts — including Trona Joint Unified and Baker Valley Unified School District in the First District — to continue providing vital school nursing services through June 30, 2026.
Through these agreements, Public Health will deliver hearing, vision, and scoliosis screenings, along with immunization consultations and referrals for students in districts without dedicated nursing staff. These services help ensure students in remote communities like Trona and Baker receive early health interventions that support their well-being and academic success.
Public Health expects to complete about 3,300 screenings during this period, continuing a 45-year commitment to helping San Bernardino County students stay healthy and ready to learn.
