During Tuesday’s Board of Supervisors meeting, I was honored to be named Chair of San Bernardino County’s new Federal Affairs Committee, which will ensure that our federal lobbying efforts are well-coordinated and effective.
I’m excited to lead this new committee with the assistance of Third District Supervisor and Board Chair Dawn Rowe. We’ll be working with County staff to identify funding requests, and then engage directly with members of Congress (especially the House Appropriations Committee), to advocate for the needs of our residents.
The Federal Affairs Committee aims to secure federal funding through grants, federal partnerships and matching funds, and member-directed funding requests (previously called earmarks). Our mission aligns with several County goals, including promoting the Countywide Vision, improving government operations, and operating in a fiscally responsible manner.
As a former member of Congress, I’m excited to serve as a liaison between our local and federal government to achieve positive outcomes for our communities.
On a separate note, I’d like to congratulate Supervisor Dawn Rowe on her re-election as Board Chair for another two years. Her leadership has been outstanding, and I look forward to seeing the continued positive impact she will have on our communities. I also want to extend my congratulations to Fifth District Supervisor Joe Baca Jr. for stepping into the role of Vice Chair. His new position is well-deserved, and I’m confident he will excel in supporting the board’s initiatives.
