It’s official. Winter has graced our local mountains with over 6 inches of fresh snow, turning Wrightwood into a winter wonderland! But before you grab your sleds and snow boots, let’s talk about enjoying this snowy paradise responsibly and safely.
A Word from the Director of Public Works
Noel Castillo, San Bernardino County’s Director of Public Works, shared his insights on preparing for the snowy season. “We want you to have fun, but safety comes first,” Castillo emphasizes in the video below.
Castillo and his team have been preparing tirelessly for the winter by mitigating risks in the Wrightwood community. This has included cleaning up basins, channels, and drains to safeguard the village against any potential storms.
- Respect Your Neighbors: Remember, we’re all here to enjoy the snow. Keep the environment clean by picking up after yourself. Let’s leave no trace but footprints. Designated dumpsters are located along Highway 2, and portapotties are set up outside the Wrightwood Community Building on Park Drive.
- Stay Off Streets and Lakes: Snowplay in the streets or on frozen lakes? Not only is it dangerously risky, but it’s also against the law. Keep yourself and others safe by avoiding these areas.
- Designated Play Zones Only: The best place for snowplay is at Mountain High Ski Resorts’ Yeti Snowplay Park or past the West Resort in National Forest land. Snowplay within the Wrightwood community is strictly prohibited to maintain safety and order.
- Turnouts Are for Chains, Not Games: Use turnouts for what they’re intended – to chain up your vehicle, not for impromptu snow games.
- Parking Woes: Illegal parking can cost you up to $150 in fines, or worse, get your car towed. Let’s keep the fun in the snow and the hassle out of parking.
- Snow Plow Courtesy: During a snowstorm, make sure your vehicle is parked in a driveway or off the road. This gives our snow plows the space they need to keep our streets clear and safe.
By following these guidelines, we can all enjoy the snowy delights Wrightwood offers without compromising safety or the community’s harmony. So, bundle up, head out, and make the most of this snowy season. But let’s do it the right way!
