Smokey Bear is turning 81, and the public is invited to celebrate this beloved wildfire prevention icon at a special birthday event on Saturday, August 9, at the Big Pines Visitor Center in Wrightwood. Hosted by the U.S. Forest Service and local partners, the celebration will feature family-friendly activities including arts and crafts, educational tours, visits with USFS fire crews, and, of course, birthday cake.
Smokey Bear, known for his famous message “Only YOU can prevent wildfires,” has been a symbol of wildfire prevention since 1944 and continues to play a vital role in public education efforts across the country.
