After enduring a very tough year of COVID lockdowns, celebrating our freedom has never been more poignant. Several Fourth of July fireworks and community celebrations are planned throughout the First District this week. Here’s a guide to a few:

Apple Valley Freedom Festival

The community is invited to Lenny Brewster Sports Center on July 4 for fireworks, live music, food vendors and more as Apple Valley’s “Freedom Festival” returns. Bands Southern Spirit and Phoenix Rising will perform during the free event. Gates open at 2 p.m., and fireworks begin at 9 p.m. The park is located at 21024 Otoe Road, Apple Valley.

Apple Valley Village Street Fair

The Apple Valley Village Street Fair, planned for July 3, promises lots of fun for the entire family. The event, which runs from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m., will include food vendors, live music, car show, and a chili cook-off. For more information, please call 760.810.9856.

Adelanto’s July 4 Whosoever Car Show

Celebrate the Fourth of July at Adelanto Stadium during the Whosoevers Car Club’s “the biggest and baddest” car show in the High Desert. This free event will include live music, food vendors, and a “safe and sane” fireworks area near the venue. Apple Valley Firecracker Run 5K/10K

Apple Valley Recreation is holding its annual Firecracker Run at 7 a.m. Sunday in Brewster Park.  Pre-registration ends Friday, July 2, or when the park reaches event capacity. All paid runners will receive a finishers medal. Separate awards will be given for men, women and children in different age divisions. Cost to register is $21 before July 2, and $25 on the day of the race. Check in is at 6 a.m.

Mojave Narrows Community Appreciation Day

Mojave Narrows Regional Park will host a Community Appreciation Day from 11 a.m. until 3 p.m. Saturday, July 3. The free event will include free popcorn and cotton candy, games, crafts and much more. The park is located at 18000 Yates Road in Victorville. The event will take place by the water play park.

Silver Lakes Fireworks Celebration

The community of Silver Lakes in Helendale is planning a fireworks extravaganza at 9 p.m. Saturday, July 3. Please note that a Spring Valley Lakes Association card or Guest Pass with Photo ID is required for most activities. Please call 760.952.3107 for more information.

Victorville 4th of July Fireworks Spectacular

Head on over to the San Bernardino County Fairgrounds for this community-wide fireworks show. Gates open at 7:30 p.m., with fireworks beginning at 9 p.m. Guests are invited to bring their own lawn chairs and food, however there will also be vendors selling food and drinks on site. The Fairgrounds are located at 14800 Seventh Street, Victorville. For more information, please call 760.245.5551.

How to Report Illegal Fireworks

Possession of any type of fireworks is illegal in unincorporated areas of San Bernardino County. Here in the First District, “safe and sane” fireworks are only allowed in the cities of Adelanto and Needles.

Here are some numbers and websites to keep handy:

  • To report illegal fireworks in unincorporated areas of San Bernardino County, call 760.956.5001 or report the San Bernardino County Fire Department.
  • To report illegal fireworks in Victorville, visit the City of Victorville website.
  • To report use of fireworks in Apple Valley during regular business hours, please call the Apple Valley Fire Protection District at 760.247.7618. After hours, please call 760.956.5001.
