Silverwood Lake State Recreation Area recently kicked off its first Day Hike of the year on Jan. 1, offering visitors a family-friendly stroll down its nature trail to the meadow. During the hikes, rangers will point out native plants and animals along the way. Tours begin at 10:30 a.m. and run about 1 hour.
The lake is now taking additional guests on a space-available walk-in basis for their popular Bald Eagle Tours. The next tour is scheduled for this Saturday, Jan. 8.
Be sure to bring water and wear extra layers for the weather. Events will be canceled if there is heavy rain or snow. Cost is free with park entry of $10 per vehicle. For more information on park events and activities, call 760.389.2303 or follow them on Facebook for the latest updates.
