As your First District Supervisor, I’m thrilled to share some fantastic news in the recently approved San Bernardino County budget! This year’s plan prioritizes improvements that directly benefit our community, with a strong focus on public safety and park improvements.
Enhancing Public Safety in the High Desert
Public safety is paramount, and this budget takes significant strides in that direction. We’re securing funding for:
- More Deputies for Patrol Stations: Additional deputies will be deployed to unincorporated patrol stations, increasing police presence throughout the district.
- New Victor Valley Sheriff’s Station: Construction of a new station will provide our dedicated officers with a modern and efficient workspace, enabling them to serve the community even better.
- A Second HOPE Team: This dedicated unit will work tirelessly to provide homeless outreach services in the High Desert, connecting individuals with resources and support.
- Increased Support for High Desert Detention Center:We’re adding 38 positions to the Detentions Bureau, allowing the High Desert Detention Center to house high-security inmates while also improving medical and mental health care options and programs.
- Continued Crime Suppression Programs: Funding for programs like “Operation Consequences” ensures our commitment to a safer High Desert.
- Additional Firefighter Services: County Fire will receive $400,000 for additional firefighter services in Baker.
Investing in Our Community’s Well-Being
Beyond public safety, this budget recognizes other crucial areas:
- Regional Parks Improvements: Mojave Narrows Regional Park will receive a facelift with the renovation of the boathouse and snack shop, enhancing the experience for park visitors. Mojave River Forks will receive funding for the replacement/renovation of the bathrooms.
- Demolishing Unsafe Structures: $300,000 will be used to remove red-tagged buildings in Trona, eliminating safety hazards and improving the overall quality of life.
