This month, the Board of Supervisors took action on a number of important items that directly impact District 1 residents. Here’s a breakdown of key decisions:

Infrastructure Improvements:

  • Water Main Relocations in Oak Hills: The Board approved a project to relocate waterlines in two key Hesperia locations (Rodeo Street – Topaz Avenue – Pitzer Avenue and Pitzer Avenue – Rodeo Street – Wells Fargo Street) to improve reliability and reduce service disruptions.
  • Reservoir 3A Site Expansion in Oak Hills: The Board greenlit a contract for the design of a new 2 million-gallon water tank in Oak Hills. This project will expand water capacity, improve service, and enhance fire suppression capabilities.
  • Fire Station 305 Butler Building Acquisition: The Board moved forward on soliciting bids to construct a new 4,000-square-foot metal storage building for Station 305 in Hesperia. This will provide much-needed additional space for equipment and resources.

Public Safety:

  • Continuation of Special Taxes for Fire Services: The Board approved a slight ($5.16) increase in the special tax for Service Zone FP-5 to help offset rising costs for the San Bernardino County Fire Department (SBCFPD).
  • Community Facilities District 94-01 Special Tax Continuation: The Board approved the continuation of a special tax for CFD 94-01 in Hesperia. The 4 percent increase is based on the Consumer Price Index for Riverside/San Bernardino/Ontario, to support the costs of providing fire services in the City of Hesperia.

Community Investments:

  • Wrightwood Restroom Facility Improvements: I’m proud to announce the Board approved $324,500 in funding to contribute towards restroom facility improvements in Wrightwood. This investment will enhance the community for residents and visitors alike.
  • Summit Valley Road Safety Improvements: The Board allocated $600,000 in America Rescue Plan Act funding to improve safety along a stretch of Summit Valley Road by installing centerline channelizers. This will help reduce the risk of collisions.

Other Important Actions:

  • Comprehensive Treatment Campus Expansion: The Board approved $56,242,942 in funding for the construction of new facilities at the Comprehensive Treatment Campus in Victorville. This expansion will add 84 additional beds and increase local access to critical substance use disorder treatment services.
  • New Police Station and Civic Plaza in Victorville: In case you missed it, the Board approved $3.7 million in our First District discretionary funding (see item below) to partner with the City of Victorville for the acquisition of land and initial design costs for a new police station and civic plaza.

I’m committed to advocating for First District priorities and ensuring our communities receive the resources they deserve. For more information on these or other Board actions, please visit the San Bernardino County website at https://main.sbcounty.gov/.
