Here’s a quick breakdown of some exciting things we approved at the May 21 Board Meeting that will directly benefit our community:
- Increased Behavioral Health Resources: Secured funding through BHCIP Grant funds for a Comprehensive Treatment Campus in Victorville to expand access to mental health and substance abuse treatment services. The facilities will include an 18-bed Adult Withdrawal Management Treatment Facility, 14-bed Adolescent Psychiatric Residential Treatment Facility, 16-bed Adolescent Residential Substance Use Disorder Treatment Facility, 36-bed Adult Residential Substance Use Disorder Treatment Facility, Community Wellness Center and outpatient clinic serving both adults and youth.
- Safer Schools: Approved contracts to provide School-based Probation Officers in Adelanto Elementary School District, Apple Valley Unified School District and Victor Valley Union High School District. These officers will support students and families, reducing delinquency and improving school performance.
- Revitalizing the Mojave Barn: The County will solicit competitive bids for a project to build a new equestrian barn, two corrals, and improve accessibility with ADA-compliant parking in Victorville.
- Improved Pediatric Care: Ensured continued access to board-certified pediatricians at Federally Qualified Health Centers in Adelanto, Hesperia, and a school site in Apple Valley.
- Free Medi-Cal Outreach: Non-financial agreement with Maximus, Inc., to provide free educational services about the California Health Care Options Program at the Hesperia health center.
- Safer Railway Crossings in Helendale: Submitted a grant application for $40 million to the United States Federal Railroad Administration to build a bridge separating train and car traffic, improving safety and mobility in the area.
- MAC Movement: Declared a vacancy on the Spring Valley Lake Municipal Advisory Council. Appointed Debbie Cannon, Charlene Engeron, Les Palcsik, Billine Flynn, and Zale Harris to serve on the new Oak Hills Municipal Advisory Council.
