The California Department of Insurance is accepting public comment on a new wildfire insurance proposal. The proposal would use AI catastrophe models to predict wildfire risk. Some experts fear that the new rates could be 2 to 3 times higher than current rates. If you are concerned about the impact of this proposal on your insurance rates, you can submit public comment to the California Department of Insurance. The department has not yet announced a deadline for comments, but you can find more information on their website.

The virtual public hearing will take place at 10 a.m. September 17, 2024. The public can also submit a comment via email to CDIRegulations@insurance.ca.gov
