The San Bernardino County Board of Supervisors has allocated $30,000 to help cover pet adoption fees through June 30, 2027, or while funds last, reducing financial barriers and helping approximately 1,700 pets find loving homes while easing pressure on local shelters.

Qualifying adoptions from the Big Bear or Devore Animal Shelters include spaying or neutering, a microchip, and age-appropriate vaccinations, with all cats and dogs microchipped at no cost thanks to donations from the Animals aRe First Fund (ARFF); meet-and-greet areas also allow families to find the right match. Past, present, and future adopters qualify for MetLife Pet Insurance through ARFF, and adoption fees are always waived for veterans and seniors age 65 and older with valid identification.
