Sheriff Department with toy donations

Several toy drives are continuing through the holidays, helping to brighten the season for children who may not otherwise receive gifts. If you are able to donate this season, following are a few local groups accepting new & unwrapped toys.

CHIPS FOR KIDS: The High Desert CHiPs for Kids Toy Drive is in full swing, with drop-off locations at Walgreens Stores in Hesperia, Apple Valley in Victorville. For more information, contact Victorville CHP at (760) 241-1186.

STUFF THE BUS: Victor Valley Transit is hosting a Stuff the Bus Toy Drive this weekend. Bring a new, unwrapped toy to one of any five High Desert area Walmart stores on Dec. 4 or 5 between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m.

PHELAN ANGEL TREE: The Phelan Chamber of Commerce’s Angel Tree Program has returned, providing tri-community children in need with new Christmas toys and clothing. The Angel Trees are decorated with paper angels with the first name, age and gender of each child in need. Donors remove one or more angels from the tree and purchase appropriate gifts for each child. The trees will be placed in the community through Dec. 11 at DCB in Phelan/Wrightwood, Coldwell Banker, Pizza Factory, Mama Maria’s, Mills Hardware, Rick’s Roadside Cafe and the Phelan Pinon Hills CSD.  Please return the gifts to any angel tree by Dec. 11, 2021. NEEDLES STATION ANGEL TREE: The Colorado River Sheriff’s Station / Needles Police is holding its Second Annual Christmas Angel Tree drive for children in need living in Needles, Havasu Landing, and Parker Dam-Big River. The child’s clothing size, shoe size, and other personal information will be listed on the tag. All gifts are given anonymously. Please put gifts are from “Santa” or leave blank. Please wrap your gift, attach the tag you took from the Angel Tree, and return to the station by Dec. 13.  Gifts will be delivered by Dec. 22.
