Dinty

Constituent Services Representative Julia Robles (center) and First District Intern Danielle Penn (at left) had the opportunity to meet the Fire Department’s new Arson K-9, Dinty, and his handler, Fire Investigator Shawn Reiss, during a Meet & Greet last week.

Dinty, a 4-year-old black Labrador retriever, is one of only 5 arson detection dogs in California.

“Arson canines are an invaluable resource in arson investigations,” said Fire Marshal Mike Horton in a statement. “Their senses are extraordinary, capable of hitting on a drop of accelerant and can detect flammable liquids over 100 times more accurately than electronic gas detectors. Dinty will be instrumental in helping investigators locate evidence that may assist in the identity and conviction of an arsonist.”

Welcome to the County, Dinty!
