Operation Dirtbike Freedom, a High Desert nonprofit founded by Ken Colburn, is dedicated to providing free outdoor recreation to Veterans, active duty military and their families.

“Operation Dirtbike Freedom was started to give back to those who have served this country,” said Colburn. “We show Vets and active duty military all about the fun of dirt bike riding. We start right at the basics, with a small dirt bike in a safe clear area. Everyone who goes has a great time.”

Colburn provides all services at no charge. “It’s all free, and we supply the bikes and gear,” he said. “Later, we BBQ. We’ve been doing this since about 2012.”

Veterans and active military are welcome to bring their families, and the group has small bikes for children to ride. Target shooting is also offered, though not on the same day.

“We are always looking for new Veterans to join us,” said Colburn.
