It’s with great pleasure that I begin my service as your First District Supervisor. After serving since 2006 as a member of both the U.S. House of Representatives and the California State Assembly, I’m thrilled to be back home in the High Desert, where I can begin making a difference at the local level.
I understand the huge responsibilities that I’m taking on as our county grapples with the unique challenges caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. It’s critically important that we do everything we can to keep our businesses thriving and our students learning, while also protecting our most vulnerable citizens from this virus.
During a press conference on Friday, San Bernardino County health officials outlined our vaccine rollout plan. Approximately 15,600 initial doses of the Pfizer vaccine arrived today. San Bernardino County will continue to receive approximately 30,000 doses of Pfizer and Moderna vaccines each week.
Phase 1a vaccinations will give priority to frontline healthcare workers working in ICU, ER and COVID units, along with first responders. The California Department of Public Health, in partnership with CVS and Walgreens pharmacies, will be responsible for distributing the vaccines to seniors in our skilled nursing and long term care facilities, perhaps as early as next week. The Department of Defense will administer vaccines to our military service members and their families.
In addition to keeping our community and seniors safe from COVID, some of my policy goals include supporting our veterans and law enforcement, improving our infrastructure, and promoting economic growth.
Thank you for the opportunity to serve our First District community. My team and I are excited to get to work right away on the tough issues facing our county.
