SUMMARY:Phelan Phamily Phun Days
DESCRIPTION:Phelan Phamily Phun Days is a long-standing tradition in the Tri-Community which consists of Phelan\, Pinon Hills\, Wrightwood and the surrounding areas.  Having started out as an employee appreciation BBQ for Swish Poultry Farm employees in the mid-sixties the BBQ quickly moved to downtown Phelan and became a community wide event.  The annual event became known as the Phelan Phling which consisted of a wild weekend of whooping it up and blowing off steam from a years worth of hard work.  In the late eighties\, the name was changed to Phelan Phamily Phun Days to emphasize that it was an event for the whole family.  To this day “Phun Days” as the locals like to call it\, remains a family event celebrating the things that make the community great. \nThe annual event kicks off with the Phun Days Parade where spectators gather to watch parade entries ranging from wacky cars and vehicles to antique tractors to the Diamondback Marching Band and equestrian entries from local horse clubs and individuals riding mules\, marching with their clubs or youth sports teams and just about anything else you can think of. \nThe rest of the day is filled with the always popular Champagne Climate Car Show\, burnout contest and open header competition.  The Phun Zone is always popular with the youngster (and young at heart) and the is always all kinds of great food and beverages for the kids and adults.  There are even tons of booths from local businesses and crafters\, local clubs\, local churches\, and local service organizations.  Be sure to mark your calendars and come on out and support a great community event brought to you by the Phelan Chamber of Commerce.

SUMMARY:57th Annual Calico Days
DESCRIPTION:San Bernardino County Regional Parks and Calico Ghost Town are excited to celebrate its 57th annual Calico Days event\, which will be held Sept. 23-24 at Calico Ghost Town. The event\, focusing on the spirit of the Old West\, will feature an 1880s costume contest\, reenactment skits\, pie-eating contest\, Miner’s Triathlon competition\, Burro Run competition\, Bucket Brigade contest\, live musical performances and more. \nThe Miner’s Triathlon will be held on Saturday\, Sept. 23 and the Burro Run along with the Bucket Brigade will be held on Sunday\, Sept. 24. The triathlon for men and women competitions include rock pulling\, muckraking and tug-of-war events. \nThe Burro Race is a competition featuring contestants guiding their burro from station to station across town to be the first to reach the finish line. The Bucket Brigade is a race to see whose team can scoop and pass buckets of water to fill up the water barrel first. \nFood options during the event include the Calico Restaurant\, Old Miner’s Café\, Lil’s Saloon and more. Attendees can also visit Calico shops and attractions including Maggie Mine\, Mystery Shack\, Dorsey’s Gourmet Dog House shop and the Odessa Railroad train ride. Calico is pet-friendly and leashed pets are welcome. \nThis family-friendly event embraces the life and culture of the 1880s when Calico was a bustling silver mining town from 1881 through the late 1890s\, when Calico began to see a steady decline in population as silver lost its value and people fled the town. \nAt the height of its glory\, the town’s population rose to about 1\,200 people in 1887\, and had about 22 saloons\, a schoolhouse\, post office\, its own version of a China Town\, a cemetery and its own newspaper. The town produced about $86 million in silver and about $45 million in borax hauling its product by the infamous 21-Mule Team. \nIn 1966\, Walter Knott\, the founder of Knott’s Berry Farm\, donated Calico to San Bernardino County\, which is now managed by the Regional Parks Department. \nWith the support of the Board of Supervisors and the Countywide Vision\, San Bernardino County Regional Parks continues to achieve the vision’s goals through the Vision2BActive campaign of promoting recreational activities\, services and programs. \nThe 57th annual Calico Days event will be held from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Ticket prices are $10 per adult and $5 for children ages 4-11. Children ages 0-3 are free. For more details and a daily schedule of events\, visit parks.sbcounty.gov/calico-days. \nFor prices on all Calico attractions or for ghost tours\, visit www.calicoattractions.com. \nCalico Ghost Town offers full and partial camping at the park. Reservations may be booked directly online at www.sbcountyparks.com. Cabins and bunkhouses are also available.\nCalico Ghost Town is located off the I-15 at Ghost Town Road in Yermo\, just 10 miles north of Barstow located at 36600 Ghost Town Road in Yermo.

SUMMARY:24th Annual San Bernardino County Sheriff’s P.R.C.A Rodeo
DESCRIPTION:The 24th Annual San Bernardino County Sheriff’s P.R.C.A Rodeo is scheduled on Friday\, Sept. 22 through Sunday\, Sept. 24 at Glen Helen Regional Park. Gates open at 4 p.m. on Friday and Saturday\, and the rodeo starts at 8 p.m. Gates open at 2 p.m. on Sunday\, and the rodeo starts at 6 p.m. \nFriday night’s rodeo is dedicated to raising awareness of domestic violence. On Saturday\, visitors are asked to wear pink to show support for breast cancer awareness. Sunday’s rodeo performance is dedicated to military and public safety personnel. \nRodeos have been part of the San Bernardino landscape since 1957. For years\, the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department has brought this exciting tradition to the Inland Empire in what has quickly become one of the most outstanding western sporting events in Southern California. Each year the association strives to create a bigger and better rodeo that truly exemplifies the thrilling excitement of the Old West. \nChanging times saw the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Benefit Rodeo disappear in 1974 to the dismay of rodeo lovers everywhere. But with the dawn of the new century\, the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department is proud to bring back this classic event\, bigger and better than it ever was. \nThrough the generous support of community sponsors and the dedication of Rodeo volunteers and association members\, the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Rodeo is an opportunity for visitors to experience the “rough-and-tumble” ways of cowboy life along with wholesome family entertainment. \nThe Rodeo has come a long way since its beginning in 1957. Today the Rodeo not only includes the blood tingling excitement of bull riding\, calf roping and saddle bronc riding\, but also family entertainment also includes the mechanical bull\, rock climbing\, pony rides and a petting zoo. \nEach year\, the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Benefit Rodeo nominates a Rodeo Queen to represent and promote the rodeo. Past Queens have included local residents such as Leslie Wheeler of Fontana and Linda Tillman from Yucaipa. The reigning Rodeo Queen will work to promote the rodeo throughout the year.
